November 2013 BSDC Newsletter

Happy Thanksgiving from the Black Swamp Driving Club!  The year has gone by so quickly and the driving season is about to end. The BSDC still has some events to come. Here is the list:
November 16th, BSDC Annual Banquet, Arlington, Ohio
December 14th, Christmas on the Farm, Kenton, Ohio
We have so much to be thankful for. The club enjoyed a safe and successful driving season. We had a great year of events and driving experiences, as well as speakers and our safety clinic. Thanks to the membership, the drive or event hosts, and the Board of Directors for making this another successful year. Thanks to all!
We had a great attendance at the Parker Bridge Drive in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and the Coonhunters Drive in Tiffin, Ohio. I believe each drive had 8 turnouts and had great attendance. Both of these drives are beautiful. They are so relaxing and,  when the weather is great, it’s a wonderful driving experience.
While ending one season, it’s time to start planning for 2014. If you would like to host a drive or an event, think of the date that you would like for it to be held, and submit your plans at the January 2014 meeting. This will give the club an idea of planning other activities for the year. If anyone has questions about what elements to consider in planning your event, please feel free to contact us.  January is the kickoff month for planning but you can schedule an event anytime. I do not have the dates for the regular business meetings for 2014 yet. I will post them when the dates have been confirmed.  Our meetings are held at the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Arlington, Ohio, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with a potluck to follow. If you, or if you know of anyone that would be interested in our club, please forward this information. It would be great to share the club with new members.  There is always an open invitation to join us.
As the year draws to a close, it’s a great time to regroup. Check the harness, go over your vehicles and check for things that may need replaced, and review the necessary health maintenance of your horses, ponies, and donkeys.  That way, when we start the new driving season, you will be prepared. I know from experience that things can always be done later, but when it’s time to roll the units you won’t be stressed to get things done.
The BSDC would like to extend a “Happy Thanksgiving”  greeting to you and your family. Our club wishes you a happy holiday season.
Please submit any news, pictures, or information you would like to have in the article to Roger Higgins Jr., 740-251-7193 or via email at prior the 15th of each month.
Until next month,
