It’s been a busy summer for our members.   A special congratulations to Dr. Susan Orosz, DVM, driving her Morgan mare Belle with her Border Collie, “Winnie The Pooch” on board.  They won the Carriage Dog Class with a total of 10 entries at the CAA Carriage Horse Show at the KHP.   Mary Thomas driving her Dartmoor pony was a close second with her trusty Jack Russell terrier Sara.  These dogs were both from rescues, any dog with training can make a winning pet.  This class was probably the hardest one for the judge to pick a winner.  The dogs are judged on how well behaved they sit on the carriage and being cute and the driver dressing to compliment the dog doesn’t hurt either.  All of the dogs are just happy to get to ride along.  The carriage dogs were thrilled to get a treat and don’t care about their ribbons   It’s just one of the fun classes that’s a real crowd pleaser.

On June 22 we had a Picnic Drive at Richwood Lake Park, Richwood, OH with hosts: Bernard & Pam Baker, Mary E Elliott & Linda Spears.  Mary and Linda kept the grill going and everyone enjoyed the potluck.   Then it was hitch up time around a 5 mile route or just around town.   We had 5 turnouts for a day that started out with morning rain but ended up great by noon.

July is usually a slow month but we were busy almost every weekend.  The first week we had the Wyandot County Historical Society Ice Cream Social with a static display of carriages.  We had less people coming there this year since it was the same time as Horse Progress Days in Mt Hope, Ohio.   People come from all over the world to see the latest in horse drawn equipment.   Mike Sadlon, one of our members was driving a pair of Fjords there.   They had buildings plus tents full of vendors and lots of food.  You could watch demonstrations in the field with all breeds of drafts, even some of the rarer breeds that you don’t get to see often.

Then the next week Darlene Higgins had an 80 birthday party.  Everyone knows Darlene and how helpful she has always been with the club for many years.

On July 19th the Gillfillan’s had a club get together at the Indian Lake State Campgrounds with a picnic and boat rides.

The last weekend found us at Grand Rapids having a picnic and then boarding the  canal boat pulled by the mules at Providence Metro Park in Grand Rapids, Ohio.

On AUGUST 23 we will be having a picnic and then a drive at Unger Park, 2014 UNGER PARK DRIVE,1303 NEVADA RD., BUCYRUS, OH, 44820  This is hosted by Sandy & Larry Young, and Peg Graham.
