BSDC February 2002 Newletter

By Fred Thompson

Hi everyone and Happy February to you all.  I always think of this month as the peak of winter.  After February is over with, there are hopes and dreams of warmer weather.  That is if the March winds don't blow you away.   I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store for us.  Maybe she'll be nice to us this year and give us an early spring.  Wouldn't that be nice-a late winter and an early spring.

Now for a moment let's forget about the weather and think about LOVE.  That's right guys, Valentine's Day is this month and I'm giving you plenty of warning.   So lets get out there early and get that real mushy Valentine's Day card bought.  There is nothing worse that waiting until the last minute to get that "Special" card only to find out that the only thing left in the store says "TO MY FAVORITE AUNT".   Believe me guy, I don't care how good you are at cutting and pasting, its tough to change AUNT into WIFE and then try to convince her that they all were like that.  If you do happen to find yourself in this predicament, there is only one hope left.  That's right-A LOVE POEM.  You say that writing love poems are not your thing.  Well feel free to use this insert from my favorite love poem.

Some men, they buy chocolate for Valentines Day,
They get it at Wal-Mart, it's romantic that way.
Some men get roses on that special day
From the cooler at Kroger. "That's impressive," I say.
Some men buy fine diamonds from a flea market booth.
"Diamonds are forever," they explain, suave and couth.
But for this man, honey, these things won't do.
Cause you're too special, you pretty thing you.
So I got you a gift, without taste and without odor,
More useful than diamonds. ..IT'S A NEW TROLLING MOTOR! !

Sniff,Sniff  I can almost see the tears running down her cheek now.

OK now, it's time to get down to business.  The first meeting of the year was held January 13 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Findlay.  It was a beautiful January day and we had a great turnout with 34 members present. Past President Joe Bell brought the meeting to order.   As most of you know that this is the meeting that the officers for the New Year are decided.  So while everyone else was tasting all the goodies that was brought to snack on, the directors were banished to another room to determine who would hold the offices for this year.  I am glad to announce that the officers for this year are:

 Roger Higgins for President
 Angie Hohenbrink for Vice-President
 Sue Murray for Secretary-Treasurer
 Fred Thompson for Reporter

The meeting was re-opened by our newly elected President Roger Higgins. The first thing on the agenda was trying to get some details set up for our Safety Driving Clinic for this year. We are aiming for April 7th from 1-4.  Joe Bell will be getting hold of Fetters Farm to see if we can get this facility again this year.  Gary Gillfillan is heading up the committees.  More detail will be in next month's news.

Next Roger listed the drives he had from the annual meeting with more positive dates put on some of them.  This list has all the makings of a very good year. All the drives we have so far will be listed in the UPCOMING EVENT at the end of the article.   If anyone else is interested in hosting a drive, bring it up at the next meeting or get in contact
with one of the directors.  We will be more than happy to add you to the list.

Roger next asked for comments or concerns from the floor.  Henry zumFelde asked if it was possible to get new sheet protectors for our "BSDC HISTORY BOOK"?  Sandy Young was most gracious and offered some of Peggy Grahams.  Thanks Ladies.    These same ladies also offered to build up our scrapbook with new pictures.  Anyone that has any pictures from past drives that would like to donate them to the scrapbook, it would be truly appreciated.

Tom Shapler asked if there was any interest in being the Bowling Green Christmas Parade in November.  I didn't get a count of hands but apparently it was good enough that Tom is going to get more details for the next meeting.

With time running out, Roger thanked everyone for coming and adjourned the meeting.

The next meeting will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church on W. Bigelow in Findlay, Oh.  It will be on February 17th between 2pm and 4pm.  Directions:  From 224, go west over I-75 to the first light which is Northridge Rd. (Cracker barrel Restaurant is on the corner), turn right and go to the end.  The church will be on your right.  Please
bring snacks to share and coffee and punch will be provided.  New members are always welcome so please come and join in.
