BSDC May 2003 Newsletter

Hey Swampers, It's time to roll !!! Get ready, the first
drive is on May 4th. How fast time goes by, it seems like we were just
making plans for the drives, now its time to get things started. The best
way to start this report is the list of the confirmed drives so far. Here they
are:
The Walker Drive, May 4th
The Shapler Drive, May 18th a
The Higgins/Emmons Drive, June 7th
The
Gillfillan Drive, July 4th
The
Bell Drive, July 20th
The Young
Drive, August 24th
The
Elliott Drive, The date is pending
The
Murray Drive, September 28th
The Hunter Drive, October 18th
The
Newman Drive, October 26th
Plus, there are some events happening between the drive dates.
The Black Swamp Driving Club held a meeting on
April the 6th in Findlay. The meeting was opened by Roger Higgins Sr.. The
treasurers report was given by Angie Hoehenbrink, and the secretarys
report was given by Sandy Young. Both reports was approved as read. We
welcomed Linda Spears back from her mishap on the ice. It was nice to have her
back. We also had a past member join us, Brandy Eckard, we were glad she could
come again. Congratulations to the Bonifas family. They had a new baby girl on
April 1st. We also had a report about Harvey Fairchild. Harvey fell on the ice
and broke a rib. We wish him a speedy recovery. At this point, the Club
was asked a question from Mary Elliott. Are we going to Malabar? The answer
was "yes", we had a great time last year. Mary is checking on the
dates, that's why I listed her drive above as pending. We had alot of
discussion about the drives. We coordinated the dates and times which took
awhile to complete. While this was taking place, there were other dates of
other events going on as well. Some of the things happening were The drive at
the Kentucky Horse Park, it will be held on October 10th thru the 12th. The
All Horse Parade in Delaware, Ohio is on September the 7th. Progress Days is
in Mt. Hope on July 3rd thru the 5th. Malabar Plowing Match is May 17th and
18th. Also, if you need information for the CAA Conference in June, contact
Roger and Sue Murray. These were just some of events reported. So, you can see
there is alot happening for the Club. A note for the hosts for the drives,
please have directions to the reporter as soon as possible. That way we
can get them in the Corral. Speaking of directions, here are the list
for the first three drives;
The Walker drive, Coming from
Findlay area - take 75 north to Rt. 6, then
go west to Grand Rapids and cross the bridge to Rt. 24. Go west on 24
to Cty. Rd. 3 and go north (right) about 6 miles and our house is on the
left.
It is a brown farmhouse with red & white pole barns.
From the north you would get on St Rt. 2; which is Airport Hwy. and we
are 2
miles
west out of Swanton turn left onto Cty. Rd. 3 and drive 4 miles.
We are on the corner of 3 & C on the right side.
From Delta come up Airport Hwy. 3 miles heading east and turn onto Cty
Rd. 3, drive 4 miles south to just past Cty. Rd. C and we are on the
right side. We'll have signs at Rd.3 and Rt. 24 and we will have a
fairly
large BSDC sign in the front yard. Potluck at 12:00
The Shapler Drive, Take Rt. 75
North to I-475/23N., to Rt.24 West. Take St. Rt. 24 West, the drive is 7
miles west of the
Grand
Rapids Bridge. Look for the Mary Jane Thurston State Park North Turkey Foot
Area. Parking is on the south side
of road. There is a large area for parking. Potluck at 12:00
The Higgins/Emmons Drive, Take
St. Rt. 309, from Marion it will be 309 west, from Kenton, 309 east. Stay on
Rt. 309 to
Hardin County Rd. 265, turn south toward Pfeiffer Station. At Pfeiffer Station
turn right on Co. Rd. 144. Stay on Co. RD.

to Dudley Township Rd. 199, Turn left. There will be signs posted on 309. If
you need to call us dial cell phone number

Remember to bring goodies for the potlucks at the drives. If there is
something you need in a special nature, bring it. Some of the drives are in
rural areas.
We have completed the regularly scheduled meetings for right now, so if
there are things which need to be discussed bring it up at the drives. There
will be mini meetings for updates and other issues. Gosh, I think that's about
it for now. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable driving season. Remember, if
