June 2006 Newsletter
Greetings from the Black Swamp Driving Club. We hope you are all enjoying the warm weather with your horses. We have a few reminders and other requests for you in this article.
Our recent safety clinic was a great success with lots of great information on horse care and driving safety. We especially enjoyed all the rides around the fairgrounds. The refreshments were fantastic and it turned out to be a great day for all.
The next event is sponsored by Al and Angie Hohenbrink on June 17-18th. We will be at the Henry County Fairgrounds located on State Route 108 at the south end of Napolean. The fairgrounds will be holding a Relay for Life walk so please do not arrive until after 12:00 pm. Saturday there will be a draft horse clinic from 1:00-2:00 (approximately) and we will go for a drive in the evening after everyone has had their supper. The horses can spend the night in the 4-H barn. The stalls are very nice and there is plenty of access to fresh water. Please be sure to clean your stall before you leave. On Sunday there is a fun show at approximately 9:00 am. We had a wonderful time last year at this show. It was a unique opportunity to meet some new driving enthusiasts, in a very relaxed atmosphere, and to cheer each other on in each class. We will commence with the potluck during our lunch break and drive at will afterwards. We encourage all of you to join us at this fun event.
The picnic at Joe Bell’s house will be July 23rd with no horses just food, carriages and fun. Please bring your favorite carriage to show as they will host a carriage show and there will be judging on the various displays. More details are on the way.
Finally we would like to ask you all for your help in making this article as informative as possible. First, we need pictures. It sure would be nice to include a different member, along with their carriage or their horse, in each article. It would be great for people that skim across the article to actually see what we do. We will scan your picture and return it at the next possible meeting, or mail it to you if that would work better. Also if you are hosting a drive please be sure to send (snail mail) detailed directions and exact times to either Mary or myself. Please document the information exactly how you would like it to appear in the article. We will copy it word for word to ensure accuracy. It is very important that we have this before the 10th of the month. That is the new due date for the article.
We’ll see all of you at the next drive. Take care and safe driving.
