OCTOBER---What a wonderful month. Fall is now in full swing and the
air is as crisp as the leaves falling from the trees.  For the most part
, the bugs have went to where ever bugs go.  We are left to love this
earth for all the beauty  it has to offer us.   But have you ever
wondered why the name of our 10th month means 8th month in Latin.  This
will give you a little something to think about when your outside
mucking out your stalls.
The last two drives of the season are coming up in October.
Heritage Day in Kenton will be October 2-3.  I gave the low down on this
drive last month because it was so close to the first of the month.
The second drive of the month and last drive of the season will
be at the State Corn Husking Contest on October 9-10.  It will be held
at the Wyandot County Fairgrounds in Upper Sandusky, Oh.  John and Sara
Hunter will be hosting  this Grand Finale.   You may arrive on Friday
night if convenient.  Camping is permitted with water and electricity
hook-ups.  There are two motels nearby.  Comfort inn-1-800-228-5150 and
AmeriHost Inn- 1-800-434-5800.
BSDC will have vehicles on displayed and horses will be stabled in
the 4-H horse barn.  An obstacle course will be set up for 1:00 P.M. on
Saturday and 2:00 P.M. on Sunday.  There will be a parade on Saturday at
2:00 P.M. and Sunday at 1:30 P.M. with period dress optional.  You may
drive at your leisure throughout the fairgrounds during the weekend.
Saturday night we will be making mulligan stew with the meat
furnished.  Please bring some veggies etc. for the stew and another dish
such as munchies or desert if you wish.  Coffee and something for your
sweet tooth will be provided each morning.
Food stands will be set up on the grounds the entire weekend as
well as many great craft booths.  Various activities, demonstrations,
and contests will be taking place for the enjoyment of entire family.

Now a report on the last two drives and they both sounds like they
were just great .  The drive on August 29th  was held at Sandy and Larry
Young’s.  It was hosted by Sandy, Larry, Peg Graham, Mary Elliott and
Linda Spears.  Sandy said the weather couldn’t have been better.  A
gorgeous day with a little breeze.  What more could you ask for.  There
were 42 people ,with some new faces joining in ,and 15 turnouts.  After
the 1:00 potluck was over everyone hitched up and enjoyed a wonderful
afternoon of driving.
The Sept. 11th drive at Oak Openings wasn’t to be out done on
weather or participation.  Mike and Joyce Cook hosted this drive and
said there were 40-50 people with 13-14 turnout on hand.  Lunch was held
at noon with Mike doing the cooking of the Brats and burgers.  A big
thanks goes out to Henry zumFelde for furnishing the meat.  Along with
what everyone else brought, no one should have went away hungry.  The
meal was followed by a 8.4 mile drive that took about 3-3   hours.
Mike said it was a wonderful sight to see the turnout all in a line
stretching for  about a  mile and a half.  Sounds like a great drive
